It’s new years day which means one thing, trends for 2020 are a hot topic. We’ve looked at what the interior trends will be for 2020 and we couldn’t wait to share them with you.

Reflecting on 2019, the interior trends consisted of ‘Mellow Yellow’, ‘Bold colours’, ‘Earth conscious’ and eco-friendly products, ‘maximalism instead of minimalism’ and Pantones ‘Living Coral’ colours. You can see our 2019 trends article here. So, what’s in store for 2020 interior design?

1.PANTONE Says ‘Classic Blue’

Pantone announced in December 2019 that ‘Classic Blue’ is the colour of 2020. We will be seeing lots more blue and it’s described as the ‘shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk’. They’ve also said that it’s not just the colour of classic blue that will be prominent in 2020, it’s the sight, smell, taste, feel and sound too. (1)

2.Vintage Accents

According to Good Housekeeping the past is coming back into the present with vintage accents in interior design. This time round, interior designers will be incorporating one or two statement pieces instead of a complete vintage themed home. It is also said that Patina accents will also make a comeback with clay and terracotta colour trends coming in. (2)

3.Floral wallpaper

Floral wallpaper isn’t everybody’s cup of tea but according to Good Housekeeping 2020 will be the year it will excel. “Floral wallpaper has been around for years and you will continue to see the pretty pattern but with a much more modern update,” says interior designer Abbe Fenimore, founder of Studio Ten 25. “Large scale, bold color, and even metallic versions are here to stay.” (2)

4.High contrast décor

When it comes to interior design, it’s always been in the background as to whether or not high contrast décor is on trend and most people tend to stick to white and simplistic, but 2020 is said to be the year that it all changes. Expect to see black walls, pop art and contrasting furniture. (2)

5.Colour-pop kitchens

This trend started making an appearance in 2019 with different colour kitchens, but 2020 is the year it will become more of a feature with prominent colours in the kitchen. According to the experts at Modiani Kitchens, “the trend in 2020 is to choose one or several elements, like the kitchen island, kitchen wall cabinets, or base cabinets in daring colors, like dark red, bright yellow, green or navy blue.” (2)

It’s also been said that we can look forward to seeing trends such as; Free standing tubs, canopy beds, rattan and wicker furniture, curved sofas, kitchen art, antique art, olive trees, non-white kitchens and cozy fabrics.
