The AJ100 2019 list is out

AJ100 Awards 2019

At a prestigious Gala dinner and awards ceremony held at the Tower of London, the UK’s top Architecture practices found out if they made the cut onto the Architecture Journal’s top 100 for 2019 (AJ100).

The event, which took place on 19th June 2019, measures the number of Architects employed within the business. According to the Architecture Journal: “Published annually since 1995 this survey offers a timely snapshot of the profession over the previous calendar year and measures the level of optimism among practices for the year to come. With respect to fees, salaries, sectors and markets, where the AJ100 practices go, the profession follows.” (https://aj100awards.architectsjournal.co.uk/)

The top ten AJ100 practices announced were:

  • Foster + Partners
  • BDP
  • Zaha Hadid Architects
  • Allford Hall Monaghan Morris
  • Allies and Morrison
  • Sheppard Robson
  • Grimshaw
  • Hawkins\Brown
  • Atkins
  • Scott Brownrigg

Well done to Grimshaw who not only won Building of the Year for London Bridge Station but also won Practice of the year too.

Many of the companies mentioned are valued Hunter Dunning clients. Hunter Dunning Managing Director, Joe Synes said: “We would like to extend our congratulations to every practice that made the list of top AJ100 practices this year. We can see an obvious growth in many of the businesses compared to last year, which is a sure sign that despite Brexit fears, our industry is still on the up.”

Brexit has very much been on everyone’s minds both at home and staff/projects overseas. However, regardless of this we have seen that planning permission approval has seen growth since 2010. Moreover, we have also seen a growth of technology in this industry, for example using Augmented Reality for Interior Design and Architecture as well as the launch London Architecture Guide App. The London Festival of Architecture 2019 also promised and delivered being bigger and better than previous years.
