We all need some positive news in our lives right now, and this is just that. At a time when no one knows what is around the corner for their career, 17 young successful candidates will be working towards their BSc (Hons) Construction Management degree in January 2021.
The housebuilder has recently revealed that they originally received more than 800 applications for places this summer when the course was opened up to members of the public for the first time in 2019.
The course was originally launched back in 2017 and was only open to current employees with a level 3 qualification or a minimum of five years industry experience. Last year in 2019 they decided to open the course up to school leavers due to the lack of construction education given in school. The school leavers need to have three A-Level pass grades or a Level 3 BTEC and would look to have them begin their course with Redrow Homes within their first couple of months.
The degree programme is run in partnership with Coleg Cumbrai and Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), with students splitting their time between studying and working in one of Redrow’s divisions across England and Wales.
Anna Milne and Kate Hopkins, Heads of Talent at Redrow, said: “we were blown away by the volume of high-quality applications we received for our Sponsored Construction Management Degree Programme.”
“Many students who completed their A-Levels or BTEC courses this summer wanted a higher education route which provided important skills for an exciting career, at the same time as providing an income.”
“Our degree is fully funded by Redrow and allows students to study for a BSc (Hons) Construction Management in Housebuilding and learn on the job, whilst getting paid. Our first cohort, enrolled in 2017, are now in their final few months of the degree.”
“They have learned so much that has been invaluable to their careers and have also made life-long friends – we’re now excited to welcome our new students to Redrow and wish them the best of luck.”
Karen Jones, HR Director at Redrow, said: “We launched our degree programme to expose more young women and men to the hundreds of career options the construction industry has to offer, and it’s fantastic to now be approaching school leavers with the opportunity.”
“It’s well known that the construction industry is facing a skills shortage caused by an aging construction workforce and the looming loss of EU-workers, so it’s vital the industry plans for the future and secures the talent and skills needed.”
