The Modular Housing venture BoKlok UK has exchanged on its first three development sites and are expected to be completed in 2021.
The joint venture between IKEA and Skanska has bought sites in Peacehaven, Bristol and Worthing and will provide a combined 400 new homes subject to planning permission. It has been said that a portion of the homes will be sold to housing associations and local authorities, but the majority of the homes will be up for sale on the general market.

The joint venture launched in the UK last year but originally the idea was created in the early 1990s. When IKEA and Skanska came together to offer high quality, sustainable and low-cost homes. Since 1997 when the first BoKlok homes was compelted, they have built more than 11,000 homes throughout Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway, but 2021 will bring us our first UK homes by BoKlok.
It has also been said that the homes will be constructed off-site which they claim allows for cost control and minimalised material waste, resulting in low-cost and environmentally friendly homes. Our recent blog featuring the ‘Construction Corridor’ also talks about this new environmentally friendly way of building new homes. Find out more here.
“We are delighted to meet this first milestone for our UK business. We are grateful to our partners and the local authorities we are working with who have been supportive in sharing our vision of sustainable, quality, low cost homes for all,”
