Exciting news for Edwardian building lovers! Farringdon-based contractor, RED Construction Group, has secured an £8m job to convert a remodeled 1970s office into a beautiful Edwardian-looking building.

Appointed by Seaforth Land and designed by award-winning Architect Groupwork + Amin Taha, the delivery of a distinctive refurbishment project at 20-23 Greville Street, adjacent to Holborn’s historic Bleeding Heart Yard in central London is due to be completed in summer 2021

The unique refurbishment project encompasses a comprehensive restoration of an existing office building, in close proximity to RED Construction Group’s headquarters, to reinstate the structure’s original Edwardian architectural details and bring new purpose to the site.

Current office building vs Edwardian plans.

The plans for the refurbishment include retaining much of the existing structure and use of the Cross Laminated Timber to create two extra floors on top of the original building. RED Construction Group plan to install a historically-inspired mesh façade and new windows, in keeping with the periodic building features as well as complementing the surrounding Hatton Garden Conservation Area.

The total refurbishment will span the building’s 35,566 sq ft of floorspace, with the basement, ground and first floor levels fronting both Greville Street and Bleeding Heart Yard and will be renovated and adapted for retail and restaurant use. The building will also incorporate a dedicated 1,486 sq ft affordable workspace for the craft of fine jewellery, in keeping with the historical character of nearby Hatton Garden.

Graham Sturge, Managing Director of RED Construction, said: “We are proud to have the opportunity to deliver on the vision of Seaforth Land’s CEO, Tyler Goodwin to create an authentic historical restoration in collaboration with architect Groupwork + Amin Taha.

Marcus Hale, Chief Development Officer at Seaforth Land, added: “The view from the new Crossrail Station at Farringdon, looking up Greville Street, will be greatly enhanced and made more inviting once we are finished with the project.”
