Our client is a well established and award winning architectural practice based in Bristol who work primarily on large scale residential and commercial/mixed-use projects.

They have an exciting opportunity for a talented Urban Designer to join their team, to work on residential masterplans and layouts for UK projects. The job is based in the Portishead office.

The successful candidate will be flexible and organized with design skills and a passion for creating great places. They will thrive on team work, have technical and problem-solving skills and be able to think strategically with responsibility for client liaison and project management. Experience of design development from concept to planning submission is required. An interest in the UK housing sector and a good understanding of the planning system is essential.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An Urban Design qualification;
  • Ability work closely with the Design Director;
  • Experience of working for national house builders;
  • Ability to conduct site, context and character appraisals and analysis to inform design;
  • Production of masterplan drawings, design strategies and illustrations to support design principles;
  • Experience working within an architectural practice or multi-disciplinary firm;
  • Experience working on UK residential masterplans;
  • Ability to manage projects and coordinate the production of comprehensive Design and Access Statements and Design Codes;
  • Awareness of market requirements and development economics;
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to see the bigger picture;
  • Experience and understanding of community engagement;
  • Excellent written and communication skills with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft office, AutoCAD and Sketchup;
  • Excellent team-working and communication skills; and
  • An ability to work independently, managing their own time and workload to meet tight deadlines.
