Job Summary

Urban Designer Job in Bristol, Somerset. This permanent, hybrid role offers a salary of £29,000-£35,000 and the opportunity to join a growing, employee-owned design practice. Based in the Bristol studio with a minimum of three days in the office (including a core Tuesday), you will support masterplanning and placemaking projects across a range of scales.

About the Company

This established, employee-owned practice has been operating for over 45 years and employs around 200 people across nine UK offices. The Bristol studio, launched in 2018, is growing and currently comprises approximately 30 team members working across urban design, landscape architecture and environmental planning.

The practice is known for its landscape-led and outcomes-focused approach to placemaking. Projects range from town centre regeneration and urban extensions to large-scale strategic masterplans for both public and private sector clients. As a 100% employee-owned business, all staff contribute to the direction and success of the practice.

The Bristol team operates in a collaborative and open environment, with strong cross-office working and structured professional development.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Support urban design and masterplanning projects across varying scales
  • Assist with concept development and placemaking strategies
  • Produce high-quality graphics, visualisations and CAD drawings
  • Contribute to design reports and written documentation
  • Work collaboratively with Associates, Directors and multidisciplinary teams
  • Complete design tasks and provide support to senior team members
  • Participate in design reviews and studio discussions
  • Engage in a structured Personal Development Plan with assigned mentor

Skills & Experience Required

  • 1+ years’ experience in an urban design or architecture practice
  • Degree in Urban Design or Architecture
  • Strong conceptual urban design and placemaking skills
  • High-quality portfolio demonstrating clear design thinking
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and Rhino
  • Working knowledge of 3D modelling; Revit desirable
  • Experience contributing to town centre, urban extension or masterplanning projects beneficial
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative team approach with experience in office-based project environments
  • Understanding of UK urban design principles and placemaking frameworks
