Job Summary

Fire Safety Adviser Job Brighton provides a 3-month temporary opportunity within the Fire Engineering & Fire Safety sector. The role works three days per week on campus, supporting the existing fire safety team. You will focus on Fire Risk Assessments, Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans and wider operational fire safety activities.

Responsibilities include inspections, audits, incident reporting, professional advice and support with fire safety policies and procedures. The position involves managing assessments across complex and higher-risk premises, including student accommodation where required. You will work closely with stakeholders across Estates and Facilities Management, Student Operations and Support, and other departments.

Fire Safety Adviser Job Brighton requires strong knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and practical emergency planning experience. You will also contribute to compliance monitoring, fire safety guidance and the development of a positive fire safety culture across the institution.

About the Company

This opportunity is within a university environment operating across a complex campus and property portfolio. The fire safety function works with departments throughout the institution to maintain coordinated operational fire safety arrangements. The team supports stakeholders including Estates and Facilities Management, Student Operations and Support, and other university departments.

The successful candidate will join an existing fire safety team and provide additional temporary support for three months. The role combines practical fire safety assessment, compliance monitoring, advisory responsibilities and emergency planning activity. The working pattern requires attendance on campus in Brighton for three days per week.

Role & Responsibilities

• Deliver professional fire safety advisory services while supporting implementation of established policies, procedures and recognised best practice
• Undertake and manage Fire Risk Assessments across complex High and Medium risk rated premises within the campus portfolio
• Support the preparation and review of Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans and wider emergency planning arrangements
• Carry out fire safety inspections and audits, recording findings accurately and ensuring appropriate follow-up actions
• Provide clear fire safety advice to stakeholders across Estates, Facilities Management, Student Operations and other departments
• Support the development and review of fire safety policies, procedures and responses to relevant legislative changes
• Analyse fire safety information and contribute clear findings and commentary for senior managers and institutional governance requirements
• Support incident reporting and investigation activities, identifying appropriate corrective actions following fire safety incidents

Skills & Experience Required

• Relevant fire safety qualifications, professional training or membership of an appropriate professional fire safety body
• Strong working knowledge of UK fire safety legislation with confidence interpreting requirements and producing practical guidance
• Demonstrable experience undertaking Fire Risk Assessments within complex organisations or higher-risk buildings and operational environments
• Practical experience preparing Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans and supporting wider fire safety emergency planning activities
• Previous experience completing fire safety inspections and audits and producing clear documented findings and recommendations
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence behaviours and build effective relationships across diverse stakeholder groups
• Experience developing or communicating fire safety policy, procedures, training or professional guidance within a complex organisation
• Ability to organise competing activities, work collaboratively with colleagues and meet operational fire safety deadlines
