Director of Sustainability job in Culver City, CA, USA

Rare opportunity for a Director of Sustainability job with a leading architecture and design firm, working from their Los Angeles office in CA. Our client is looking for an experience sustainability lead, someone with a wealth of experience within sustainable strategies and trends, ideally from an interior design or architecture background but engineering or consultancy experience is also considered. You’ll be at the forefront of the business’ sustainability practices and assist in the development and expansion of the business in this area.

This well-established award-winning architecture and design firm has been providing services to the commercial sectors for over 80 years. Projects range across workplace, healthcare, education, and aviation, to name a few. The team of 800+ are spread across 12 offices, within multiple states in the USA, Asia, and Europe. This role will be based from their Culver City office, working on a full-time permanent basis with occasional travel to other offices across the US.

The position will see you overseeing projects to ensure the have the necessary resources/knowledge to ensure the most energy-efficient and sustainable practices are in place. In addition, the position will see you involved in the direction of sustainability efforts moving forward, assisting with shaping and growing the team, and assisting with third party certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL, etc.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Oversee projects across multiple industry types to ensure they are as energy-efficient and sustainable as possible within current construction and design methods
  • Lead the internal sustainability team, collaborating with other studios and the internal research team
  • Assist in the obtaining of third-party certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL, etc
  • Oversee and manage LEED assessments, providing training/guidance wherever necessary
  • Liaise with clients and provide guidance/advice on sustainable practices and work methods
  • Identify industry trends, new work methods, best practice, and sustainability risks
  • Assist in the growth and development of the sustainability team, company-wide; working alongside the CEO and resourcing team
  • Attend industry events and representation of the business
  • Progress monitor projects to ensure sustainability goals are met
  • Reporting and trend analysis
  • Travel to other studio locations as when required.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in interior design, architecture, engineering, or consulting
  • Degree qualified in interior design, architecture, engineering, sustainable development, or similar
  • Experience with certifications such as LEED, WELL, BREEAM, etc
  • Management experience
  • Client-facing and presenting experience.
