Job Summary
Conservation Architect Job Brighton is available with a multi-award-winning RIBA Chartered Architecture Practice on the South Coast. This role is based in Brighton and focuses on conservation, heritage, adaptive reuse and listed building projects. You will work on significant heritage schemes, including Grade II* listed buildings, historic hotels, community assets and high-end private residential schemes.
Conservation Architect Job Brighton suits an Architect with strong UK conservation experience and confident technical judgement. The position offers exposure to planning, listed building consent, conservation area applications and detailed delivery work. You will join a practice with expertise across architecture, masterplanning, sustainable design, BIM and project management.

About the Company
This multi-award-winning RIBA Chartered Architecture Practice has over three decades of experience and a strong South Coast presence. The practice has studios in Sussex and London and works across architecture, masterplanning, sustainable design, BIM, project management, conservation and adaptive reuse.
Its specialist expertise is focused on breathing new life into historic buildings. The practice works to retain character, setting and long-term value across sensitive heritage assets. Current projects include listed hotels, community assets and high-end private residential schemes.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead and support conservation and heritage projects across all relevant RIBA work stages
- Prepare planning, listed building consent and conservation area applications for sensitive heritage schemes
- Coordinate with clients, heritage consultants, structural engineers, contractors and specialist craftspeople
- Liaise with conservation officers, planning authorities and organisations including Historic England
- Produce technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation for conservation and heritage projects
- Attend site inspections and monitor works to ensure conservation best practice is maintained
- Support projects including a Grade II* listed hotel refurbishment with rooftop bar and spa
- Mentor junior team members where appropriate and contribute to successful project delivery
Skills & Experience Required
- ARB-registered Architect with several years of post-qualification experience gained within the UK
- Demonstrable experience delivering conservation and heritage projects within the UK built environment
- Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation relating to listed buildings and conservation areas
- Good understanding of traditional construction methods, including masonry, timber and lime mortars
- Strong organisational and project management abilities across technical design and site stages
- Ability to manage clients and contractors while making sound technical judgements on site
- Accreditation with AABC or the RIBA Specialist Conservation Register would be beneficial
- Experience working on Grade II* listed building projects and traditional historic materials

Who Is This Role Ideal For?
This role is ideal for an ARB-registered Architect with proven UK conservation and heritage experience. You may already work on listed buildings, conservation areas or adaptive reuse projects. It will suit someone confident with planning processes, listed building consent and site-based technical decisions.
The role is also suited to an Architect seeking a balance of project delivery, client contact and specialist conservation input. Experience with traditional materials, conservation engineering and sustainability within historic buildings would be valuable. Revit experience is desirable but not essential for this position.
