My client is a UK wide specialist Civil Engineering contractor within the water sector, they are currently looking to appoint a Buyer in Bedford, however other various locations across the UK also available for the right candidate.

This company employs around 250 staff across 11 offices UK wide, and has framework agreements and contracts with most of the water companies nationwide, also contracts with the Environment Agency that is growing year on year.

Role & Responsibilities

• Negotiate prices by telephone and email with both new and existing suppliers
• Obtain quotes for materials and plant
• Working closely with the Head of Supply Chain, seek room for improvement with working relationships and supplier service
• Attain multiple quotes to ensure a competitive price and service
• Seek responsible and renewable options
• Understanding of stock and availability levels, ability to quickly react to market shortages
• Work with suppliers to improve delivery windows
• Ensure site teams are aware of delivery times
• Measure performance of suppliers and sub-contractors.

Required Skills & Experience

• Relevant industry qualification such as NVQ or HND, not essential
• Civil engineering and/or Construction buying experience
• Strong communicator across internal and external parties
• Understanding of procurement, plant, fleet, buying, carbon/green efficiencies
• Extensive negotiation experience to ensure products are sourced at the best possible price
• Ability to prioritise workloads at short notice.
